Myanmar is famous for brilliant pagodas and ancient architectures, Myanmar welcomes a ton of visitors every year. Pun Hlaing Golf Club
The 18-hole Gary Player-designed Pun Hlaing Golf Club opened in 2000 and is located 12 kilometers west of Yangon, the gateway to Myanmar. Pun Hlaing Golf Club is often referred to as the ‘Pride of Myanmar’ and has played host to some tournaments in the region, including the Myanmar Masters Tour in 2008 and 2009 and the Myanmar Open in 2017 and 2018.
Maintained fairways and greens ensure good year-round playing conditions. Many of the fairways have rivers and lakes next to them making for an exciting challenge. With a well-kept golf course and first-class facilities, Pun Hlaing Golf Club is a top facility for golf in Yangon. Also, the fairways are wide enough to hit without too much pressure. The Yangon course offers panoramic views of the city and the world-famous Shwedagon Pagoda.
The golf course is unique and artistically tucked away in a cozy bay, overlooking the magnificent and spectacular view of the Hlaing River, Pun Hlaing River, and Shwedagon's renowned pagoda. Besides, the course is the familiar host for international tournaments such as the Putra Cup or Myanmar Masters. It could be said that golfers should come here at least once when coming to Yangon.
Royal Mingalardon Golf & Country Club
Opened in the mid-1990s, Royal Mingalardon Golf & Country Club occupies a substantial portion of Mitsui & Co.'s 3,000-acre township development at Mingalardon Garden City, which lies to the north of Yangon, Myanmar's largest city.
Situated about 6 kilometers away from the Yangon International Airport and 20 kilometers from the city center, the course extends to almost 7,200 yards from the back tees, playing to a standard par 72. Lightly bunkered, the fairways are routed around several small lakes, bringing water into play more than half the holes on the card. Each hole has different features such as water, terrain, and well-placed bunkers. Golfers will be impressed by stunning landscapes and challenging hazards.
The Myanmar Open was inaugurated in 1996, eventually becoming part of the Asien Tour, and it arrived at Royal Mingalardon as a season-opening event for professionals in 2012. Kieran Prett from Australia lifted the trophy that year, followed twelve months later by Chawelit Plaphol from Thailand when the championship returned to the same venue.
Yangon Golf Club
Yangon Golf Club, the second golf course in Myanmar is one of the oldest clubs in the country. The British established this club in 1909 by an unknown designer, it takes about 25 minutes to drive from the North of Yangon town to the club. However, the club has transited ages till today and is constantly revised to give golfers a great experience.
The club is run as a not-for-profit organization. Because the club has suffered many problems in the course of time, such as flooding in the monsoon spell and cracking during the dry season, the holes have been moved from one point to another. Currently, the course has been improved and well-maintained for golfers to enjoy throughout the year. The course is generally challenging but presents players with great fun. It has just several long tee-offs that run over wide waters, many bunkers, and hazards that are well-placed.
