Ho Chi Minh’s Stilt House is located within the grounds of the Presidential Palace in Hanoi. Built in 1958, the house served as Ho Chi Minh’s residence and workplace during the later years of his life. Rather than living in the nearby Presidential Palace, he chose this modest wooden house, reflecting his preference for a simple lifestyle.
Designed in the style of traditional stilt houses from Vietnam’s northern ethnic communities, the two-storey structure is built mainly of wood and surrounded by a peaceful garden. The upper floor contains Ho Chi Minh’s bedroom and study, while the ground floor was used for meetings and receiving visitors.
The house remains largely preserved with its original furnishings, books and personal belongings, allowing visitors to gain a more personal perspective on Ho Chi Minh’s daily life. Together with the Presidential Palace, One Pillar Pagoda and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, it forms an important part of the Ho Chi Minh Complex and can easily be included in a cultural and historical tour of Hanoi.
