Introduction

Located on Du Hang Street, Du Hang Pagoda is a longstanding spiritual landmark in Hai Phong. Also known by its religious name, Phuc Lam Pagoda, it is believed to have originated during the Early Le Dynasty (980–1009), when a Buddhist monk is said to have come to the area to teach Buddhist principles. The pagoda was substantially expanded in 1672 under King Le Gia Tong and underwent further restoration over the centuries. It was recognized as a national historical and cultural relic in 1986.

The pagoda complex features a traditional three-entrance gate, a Buddhist sanctuary, an elevated bell tower, ancestral halls and leafy courtyards. Inside, visitors can admire historic Buddhist statues, bronze bells, stone steles and intricate decorative details reflecting traditional Vietnamese Buddhist art. Beyond its architectural and religious significance, Du Hang Pagoda also holds a place in the city’s modern history, having hosted patriotic gatherings during the early 20th century. Today, it remains a place of worship and a rewarding stop for visitors interested in Hai Phong’s history and cultural traditions.
