Rising 986 metres above the southern plains, Ba Den Mountain is the highest mountain in southern Vietnam and one of the region’s most important spiritual destinations. Known for its forested slopes, caves and panoramic views, the mountain attracts both pilgrims and travellers seeking a scenic escape from the city.
Ba Den Mountain has a long history of Buddhist worship, with Linh Son Tien Thach Pagoda, also known as Ba Pagoda, among its best-known religious sites. Local legends surrounding Linh Son Thanh Mau, the mountain’s revered goddess, remain an important part of Tay Ninh’s cultural identity. During the Lunar New Year and annual festivals, the mountain becomes a major pilgrimage destination.
Today, a modern cable-car system allows visitors to reach the summit comfortably, where monumental Buddhist statues and expansive viewpoints overlook the surrounding countryside. On clear days, the scenery stretches across the southern plains, while favourable weather may reveal a spectacular sea of clouds. Visitors can also explore the mountain’s temples, caves and trekking routes for a closer encounter with its natural and historical heritage.
The dry season, generally from November to April, is often the most suitable time to visit. Ba Den Mountain can also be combined with the Cao Dai Holy See for a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City, offering a rewarding introduction to Tay Ninh’s spiritual culture and landscapes.
