Duong Lam Ancient Village offers a glimpse into traditional life in the Red River Delta, with a history stretching back more than a thousand years. The village is particularly known for its well-preserved laterite-and-timber houses, old village lanes, communal spaces and traditional architecture, creating an atmosphere quite different from modern Hanoi.
At the heart of the village is Mong Phu Communal House, surrounded by traditional houses, small courtyards and quiet lanes. Many historic homes were built using locally available laterite, timber and traditional tiles, reflecting the architectural style and way of life of northern Vietnamese villages.
Visitors can explore the village on foot or by bicycle, visit traditional homes and temples, meet local residents and experience elements of rural life such as traditional food, handicrafts and local agricultural activities. The village is also associated with several historical figures and is often referred to as the “land of two kings”, as the birthplace of Kings Phung Hung and Ngo Quyen.
Duong Lam is an excellent place for travelers looking to experience traditional Vietnamese village life and cultural heritage beyond the capital’s major monuments.
