Introduction

Also known as the Stone Church or Mountain Church, Nha Trang Cathedral stands on a small hill overlooking the surrounding city centre. French priest Louis Vallet initiated its construction in 1928, with technical consultation from architect Nesty. The cathedral was consecrated in May 1933 and later became the principal church of the Diocese of Nha Trang.

The building is distinguished by its solid grey stone appearance and French Gothic Revival design. Pointed arches, vaulted ceilings and carefully arranged geometric details give the structure a sense of height and balance. Colourful stained-glass panels illuminate the interior, while the prominent bell tower features a cross and a clock with four faces.

Beyond its architectural character, the cathedral remains an important centre of Catholic worship in Khanh Hoa Province. Sculptures depicting Christ, the apostles and other religious figures line the grounds and approach, adding to the site’s spiritual atmosphere and historical significance.
