Introduction

Da Lat Railway Station was designed by French architects Moncet and Revéron as part of the railway network connecting the highlands with the coastal region. Construction began in 1932 and was completed in 1938. The station once served as a key terminus on the Da Lat–Thap Cham line, an ambitious railway route built across the mountainous terrain between the Central Highlands and the coast. Although regular railway services later ceased, the station has retained its historical and architectural importance.

The building combines Art Deco influences with features inspired by the traditional communal houses of Vietnam’s Central Highlands. Its three prominent roof peaks are commonly associated with the Lang Biang Mountain range, while the high rooflines, arched forms and coloured glass windows give the structure a distinctive profile. The symmetrical façade and spacious central hall further reflect the station’s original function as a major railway terminal.

Today, Da Lat Railway Station serves as both a heritage attraction and the departure point for a tourist train on the remaining route to Trai Mat. The journey offers views of the surrounding highland landscape and leads towards the area known for Linh Phuoc Pagoda. Vintage railway carriages, historic locomotives and preserved architectural details connect the station’s transport history with Da Lat’s continuing identity as a cultural and tourism destination.
