Lang Chai Xua Fish Sauce Museum presents the history of Phan Thiet’s fishing communities and their long-standing relationship with fish sauce production. The exhibition traces the development of the local coastal economy and the role of fish sauce in Vietnamese culinary culture, highlighting traditional methods that use anchovies and salt fermented over time to create the distinctive seasoning.
The museum is arranged into 14 themed spaces, combining historical displays with immersive settings that recreate different periods of local life. These include scenes inspired by the Champa era, the Nguyen dynasty, French colonial times and Phan Thiet during the 1940s to 1960s. Displays explore fishing, salt production, traditional fish sauce-making and the lives of local fish sauce merchants, bringing the region’s heritage into a contemporary museum environment.
Beyond its historical exhibits, the museum offers interactive experiences that connect visitors with traditional coastal livelihoods. Recreated fishing and salt-making activities illustrate the work behind local food production, while the marine-themed 3D exhibition adds a modern visual element. Together, these spaces highlight the cultural significance of fish sauce in Phan Thiet and its enduring place in Vietnamese cuisine.
