Located in the countryside of Nghe An, Kim Lien Historical Site preserves the rural setting where Ho Chi Minh, born Nguyen Sinh Cung in 1890, spent part of his childhood. The complex is centred on two important locations: Kim Lien Village, his paternal hometown, and Hoang Tru Village, where he was born and where his maternal family lived. Together, these sites offer insight into his family background and the social environment of central Vietnam in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The heritage complex features traditional thatched-roof houses, bamboo hedges, village paths, wells and family belongings preserved in their historical context. The paternal family home in Kim Lien reflects the modest lifestyle of a rural scholar’s household, while the house in Hoang Tru commemorates his birth and early years. Memorial structures and exhibition spaces complement the original village sites with historical documents and artefacts connected to his life and legacy.
Beyond its historical buildings, Kim Lien remains an important place of remembrance in Vietnam. The landscape of lotus ponds, gardens and quiet village lanes evokes the traditional countryside of Nghe An, while commemorative activities and cultural events reinforce the site’s national significance. The complex offers a perspective on both Ho Chi Minh’s early life and the rural heritage of the region.
