Located around 45 km southeast of Pleiku, Phu Cuong Waterfall descends from a rugged basalt cliff created by an extinct volcano millions of years ago. The dark rock formations contrast with the white water and surrounding greenery, creating a dramatic landscape characteristic of Gia Lai’s volcanic highlands.
The waterfall’s appearance changes with the seasons. During the rainy season, generally from May to October, increased water flow creates a powerful cascade with billowing white spray. In the drier months, the gentler flow reveals more of the underlying rock formations and the streams winding through the valley. The La Peet Stream feeds the waterfall before continuing toward the Ayun River.
Surrounding the falls, forest vegetation, large boulders and shaded paths create a peaceful natural setting. Visitors can view the cascade from the surrounding area, explore the rocky landscape and appreciate the sounds of flowing water and birdsong. Combining striking geological features with lush highland scenery, Phu Cuong Waterfall is a distinctive destination for nature and photography enthusiasts exploring Gia Lai.
