Bat Trang Ceramic Village is one of Hanoi’s best-known traditional craft villages, with a history of ceramic production dating back more than 700 years. Situated along the Red River, the village developed into an important centre for Vietnamese pottery and ceramics, with its products historically used domestically and exported to markets across Asia and Europe.
The village combines traditional craftsmanship with a lively local atmosphere. Visitors can walk through its narrow lanes, see artisans working in pottery workshops, explore shops and the pottery market, and discover a wide range of bowls, vases, tea sets, decorative pieces and other ceramic products.
One of the most popular experiences is making pottery by hand. Visitors can sit at a traditional pottery wheel, shape the clay with guidance from local artisans and create their own ceramic souvenir. The village also includes historic architecture and cultural sites, including the ancient village area and Van Van Ancient House.
For international travelers, Bat Trang offers an opportunity to experience Vietnamese traditional craftsmanship as a living culture, rather than simply viewing it in a museum. Its location around 14–15 km from central Hanoi also makes it a convenient half-day or full-day cultural excursion from the city centre.
