Introduction

Located approximately 10 km northeast of central Da Nang, Son Tra Peninsula covers around 4,400 hectares of forested hills, rugged coastline and pristine natural landscapes. Often called the city’s “green lung,” it provides an important habitat for diverse wildlife, most notably the endangered red-shanked douc langur, a striking primate recognised for its colourful markings. The peninsula’s combination of tropical forest, mountain scenery and coastal ecosystems makes it one of the most distinctive natural destinations in Central Vietnam.

One of Son Tra’s most celebrated landmarks is Linh Ung Pagoda, home to a 67-metre statue of the Goddess of Mercy overlooking the sea. Further uphill, Ban Co Peak rewards visitors with sweeping views across Da Nang, its coastline and the surrounding mountains. The peninsula is also dotted with scenic spots such as the ancient banyan tree and small beaches including Bai But and Bai Rang, where visitors can enjoy coastal scenery, photography and relaxation away from the city’s busier beaches.

The dry season, generally from March to September, is often the most convenient time to explore Son Tra, with more favourable conditions for sightseeing and coastal excursions. The winding mountain roads require careful driving, and access to certain routes or areas may be restricted for conservation and safety reasons. Visitors should avoid feeding or approaching wild animals, particularly the red-shanked douc langurs. With its blend of wildlife, spiritual heritage and spectacular scenery, Son Tra Peninsula is an excellent choice for nature lovers, photographers and travellers seeking a peaceful escape from urban life.
